The Over 40s are the ‘Junior Development Squad ‘ of the Central Coast Cyclones.

Containing a wide variety of players ranging from Australian reps and current 1st graders to retired players who are keen to make a comeback (usually inspired by their kids), the side enjoys a fantastic tour away to the annual state championships (winners in 22-23) , as well as providing opportunities for players to represent at State and Australian level.

Over 50s cricket is played with a competitive spirit and a healthy dose of fun and camaraderie. Games have a 40 over per side duration with the participation of all players a high priority.

Cyclones Over 50s participate in the Stirling Hamman Cup, played between Newcastle District, Hunter District, and Newcastle Taverners. The competition runs from September to March.

Cyclones 50s are also involved in the Doug Walters Cup Carnival involving Tamworth, Mid North Coast, and New England. The away tours for these games are a particular highlight of the season.

The Cyclones 50s are one of the strongest sides in the State. Winners in the 2020-21 NSW Carnival (click here for full carnival details), the squad contains numerous former Coast First Graders, current Australian Over 50s opening bowler Phil Melville (still playing grade cricket with Northern Districts), and is captained by Woy Woy and Mosman champion Mark Austin.

The Over 55’s is a relative new phenomenon with its main aim, is to keep more players playing cricket between the 50’s and 60’s age group. At this stage it only has games at the regional and national level. All other games are played under the 50’s banner.

In the 2024/25 season we have the following:

55’s Nationals Championship will be held in the ACT from the 1st of December 2024.

55’s Regional Championship will be held in Tamworth from the 1st to the 4th of February 2025 where all registered players can nominate thought the Central Coast Cyclones webpage under the “Player Nomination” tab.

Cyclones 60s/65s cricket is played with just as much enthusiasm as our 50s, but at a slightly more relaxed pace. Our games are (generally) all played on turf wickets, often mid-week, and usually of 40 overs per side duration. Cyclones compete in the Greater Sydney Vintage (Over 60s) competition each season. Ten to twelve sides from the greater Sydney area play each other once during the season on a home/away basis, on Sundays, approximately every 2-3 weeks. In the 2021-22 season we won the championship in this competition, being undefeated for the season, and have finished in the top four places each season since.

We also play (generally mid-week) games against a number of regional opponents; Newcastle, Sydney, Lithgow, Southern Highlands, Tamworth, Quirindi, Mid North Coast, Coffs Harbour etc.; where we travel to them or they come to us. Lastly, we occasionally play very social intra-club games (against ourselves) a couple of times each year.

Beyond that, Cyclones enter into State Titles (for 60s and 65s) which are held in a different regional centre each year. From State Titles our players may make themselves available for selection to play for NSW in National Titles, again held in a different state capital each year. From National Titles, players may be selected to play for the Australian Over 60s (or 65s) side. In the 2023-24 season our current Vintage team Captain, Geoff Patterson, played for Australia in the championship-winning Over 60s side.

During the 2023-24 season, Cyclones hosted the 65s State Titles at the Central Coast Regional Sports Complex (Tuggerah). Eight teams in two divisions competed over three days. An impressive and successful carnival, bringing together almost 200 players and supporters from around the state.

60s cricketers generally train on Wednesdays from 9.30 am until around midday at Duffy's Rd nets at Terrigal. Keep an eye on your emails for reminders about training and for calls to nominate for upcoming fixtures.Cyclones home ground is Rogers Park, Woy Woy, where we have club rooms and use of both the turf and synthetic wickets.

Newcomers are always welcome at Cyclones training sessions. Come along and roll the arm over a few times before you decide to have a game, or not. The Central Coast Cyclones Over 70s continue the great traditions of cricket that the club close, albeit  with just as much enthusiasm and a slightly more relaxed pace than younger age groups. Games are generally played on turf, mid week and weekends with a maximum of 40 overs per team.

Cyclones 70s compete against regional opponents including Hunter Taveners, Port Jackson, Tamworth, Mid NthCoast and A.C.T.

We enter into mini carnivals( 2 day events) and State Championships that are held in different locations throughout N.S.W.

Cyclones player's also have the opportunity to nominate for a place in N.S.W. teams that compete in the Cooper Finlay Cup( State of Origin v Queensland) and the National Championships.

Recently one of our players,Greig Buscombe, was selected in the N.S.W. Blues team to play against the touring England side at Newcastle, and was subsequently added to the Australian squad to contest the One Day International against England at Coogee.

Over 70s cricket is very much still cricket. The thrill of playing with your mates and opposition on a fresh green pitch is probably appreciated more than ever.

My initial reaction to 75’s cricket was that I didn’t want to play under restricted rules. I changed my mind after playing in a testimonial game last season for 92 year old Doug Crowell from Tamworth who is still playing.It was the camaraderie that convinced me to play.

75’s has modified rules to make it easier on the body, they are:

• Games are 36 overs for each team.

• Bowling can be done in blocks of 9 overs from each end.

• Batters face 24 balls before retiring, no run limit.

• Bowlers are limited to 6 overs.

• Batters can be recycled and bowlers may have 3 extra overs when recycled batsmen return.

• No fielding restrictions

75’s have been playing for almost 2 seasons starting with 4 teams made up from different regions, there are 8 teams nominated for this season.

This season will be our first as a team but quite a few of us have played before with other regions.

All games are played at Gloucester as 2 day carnivals usually on a Monday and Tuesday, our first games are 30th September and 1st October. There will be an end of season game at Wagga or ACT against Victoria and possibly inclusion in the Cooper Finlay Cup challenges.
